How can hypnotherapy help you?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic approach that is rooted in neuroscience and combines psychotherapy and hypnotherapy to help clients make positive changes in a short period of time.  The sessions follow a structured format to allow the client to develop a clear picture of the short and long term goals that they wish to achieve and then the use of trance, which is a natural relaxed state, helps embed these changes. 

What is the neuroscience behind Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?​

To understand how we work, it helps to look at the two different sides of your brain: the Intellectual Mind and the Primitive Mind.

  • The Intellectual Mind is your rational, logical side. When you are here, you feel calm, capable, and in control.

  • The Primitive Mind is your survival brain. It’s made up of the amygdala (your alarm bell), the hippocampus (your store of past fears), and the hypothalamus (which pumps out stress hormones).

When you worry or feel under threat, your primitive mind reacts as if you are in a crisis. This fills up your stress bucket, leading to feelings of anxiety, anger, or low mood. Our work is about emptying that stress bucket. This allows you to step out of "survival mode" and return to your intellectual mind, where you can think clearly and feel like yourself again.

 

Can hypnosis work with children?

Yes, absolutely. Children often make the best candidates for hypnotherapy because of their vivid imaginations and natural openness to new ideas. As a Primary School Teacher with an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate, I have years of experience connecting with children and understanding how they see the world. I adapt every session to be age-appropriate. It is a gentle, effective way to help them navigate challenges like anxiety, confidence, bedwetting, or exam stress, helping them feel calmer and more capable. Just like with adults, they remain fully in control and in a safe, relaxed environment.  If they want, parents can join the session with them. 

Is it safe? ​

Yes, completely. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind, very similar to daydreaming or being engrossed in a good book. It is a safe, relaxing, and non-invasive process that uses your brain's natural ability to focus.

Will I lose control?

No. Forget the idea of stage hypnotists making people cluck like chickens! In hypnosis, your brain only accepts suggestions that align with your goals. It’s not about losing control; it is about regaining it.

 

How many sessions will I need?
We always start with a free initial consultation (55 minutes). This is where we identify the clear goals you want to achieve. Because everyone is unique, there’s no strict limit on sessions. However, as a general guide:

  • Anxiety-related goals: Most people notice a significant positive shift within eight weeks, though for some, this can be even sooner.

  • Specific phobias: We can usually achieve great results in four sessions. If the phobia is more complex, it may take a little longer.

  • Stopping smoking or vaping: This is handled in a single, extended session lasting around two hours, after which you will have the mindset of a non-smoker.
